My favourite thing about hearing a testimony is how deeply personal and unique the story is. There is no extent to how far God goes to reach his beloved children. He always meets us in the exact way by which we can best encounter him. After all, God is not only the perfect Father, but our crafter, carefully forming us in by hands. He knows us completely, and seeks us through this knowledge. Though the fathers pursuit of us differs from individual to individual, it is always founded upon the same concept; He seeks us because he loves us.
Testimonies are always stories of love, and this love presents itself in so many different shapes. The Father reaches to us in worship, in his word, and in prayer, but also through so much more than these traditional formats. God is constantly surprising me, (and amazing me!) with his love, pouring it out in places I had never expected it. One of my first experiences of the Father’s love happened in the rather rouge location of a night club in Tenerife. There is no limit to where God will come and bless us with his love. Heidi Baker says that she best experiences the love of the Father when she’s out swimming in the ocean. She makes this one of her priorities whenever she is home, abiding and resting in this amazing love we are freely given. The ways that God can love us is endless, and they always facilitate to exactly who we are and where we may be at.
I love this verse in Corinthians, because God literally founds our relationship with him upon it. It’s a constant reminder to me that I was pursued by love, and as a result I’m called to love in every relationship and every encounter I have. The Father has loved me at every stage of my life, and I too can love right where people are at. Just as every testimony of love is so different, I try to love as individually as I can, even if its only in really tiny acts. It’s fairly easy if you know the person well, but when you don’t, I find it really helpful to pray. God knows the person inside out, so he knows exactly how you can best love them. This past summer, I had to have a really difficult phone call, and I had no idea how to be loving within it. As I prayed, I felt God tell me to tell the person all the things I admired about them, which was completely out of context and very irrelevant to what we were discussing. Rather hesitatingly, I started to tell them how incredible their strength of character was, and how much I valued them. The whole conversation turned and went from having the potential of causing real pain into a conversation that completely healed the situation!
We have access to this incredible knowledge of the Father, and amazingly he can use us to show the depths of his incomparable love. It can be so overwhelming when we look at the vast amount of injustice in our world to know how best we can love. It’s so easy to wonder if a small contribution even makes a notable difference. But the Father call us to love in all that we do. He dosent measure love in terms of its impact, but just absolutely loves it when we love each other! So love wherever, whenever and however you can, remembering that this is how God drew us to him. Our God is a God of love, and how incredible that love is!
