What Jesus says a Christian is...

The Bible is a big deal. It says huge stuff. It says things that, if they were true, would change

everything for you. The fact that we can live normal lives whilst will claim to believe in Jesus is totally, completely stupid. It makes no sense. Imagine this: I tell you that I truly believe that the house we’re both standing in will fall down in 10 seconds. You tell me I’m stupid and illogical, and I have no proof for that. I say I don’t need proof I just have faith. Then I go and make some breakfast. It makes no sense! How could I claim to believe these things and then live as if they weren’t true? Of course the world thinks Christianity is stupid. I was stupid. A lot of ‘Christians’ are stupid. Loved, but so stupid. If you really believe your house will fall down, get out. If you really believe in an ALL-knowing, ALL-powerful ALL-present, and loving-so-much-he-was-crucified-and-tortured-for-us God, then you ACT like it.

This is not the gospel: “Jesus I am a sinner, forgive me”. The gospel is this: “Jesus I am a sinner. I REPENT of my sins, I will no longer live my life as if You are not Lord, I will instead live it for you. My purpose is now to glorify you.” This is big stuff, the difference is eternal. I would hate for someone who calls themself a Christian to get to heaven and say “Jesus I was sorry for my sins”, and for Jesus to say “I didn’t ask for your apology, I asked for you, and you wouldn’t follow me”. You act in accordance with what you believe. If you have truly repented, you will produce fruit in accordance with it (Matthew 3:8).

I am writing this so that you might not be like I was, an unsaved Christian. “Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?' Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'” (Matthew 7:23) Lord Lord, did I not lead worship, and pray for people and tell my friends when they asked that I was a Christian? Did I not give away 10% of my earnings and listen to sermon and sing songs every Sunday?

I will let God’s word speak for itself on how He describes His disciples. "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 7:21) "The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field. (Matthew 13:44) Then Jesus said to his disciples, "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” (Matthew 16:24)

Jesus' followers, the one He has a special kind of love for, who are part of His family, do as He says. They obey, because they love Him more than any other thing or person or experience in the world. They turn from what they want, and devote their lives to Jesus instead. And I’m scared for the people who were like me, who didn’t know this. Of course, it would have helped if I’d actually read the bible, but like a lot of Christians I thought church twice a week was enough.

Philippians 1:21 says “to live is Christ, and to die is gain”. It is only a gain to die and go to heaven, is for you to live is Christ. If what Jesus says is true, it’s the only logical thing to do. The time for games is over, radical Christianity is just Christianity.
